HOLLYWOOD HILLS

Hollywood Hills is a school located in Hollywood Hills, FL. They are forced to shut down sports and are in danger of shutting down their entire athletic department due to lack of funds. The cost of referees alone is greater than their entire department’s budget. Before the beginning of the school year, the department is already in debt almost $2,000 from referee fees alone. The school’s equipment is unsafe and their balls are tattered, but “they still bounce”.

SPECIAL STAR CAMP

Thank you to former NFL All Star Lamarr Woodley and the Special Olympics for teaming up to host an amazing football camp. HOLIDAY 2018

It was a Merry Christmas for the Hamtramck Housing Commission. Eighty-five percent of residents don’t have a vehicle, so Santa made sure to take a trip on his sleigh to see them. All the kids who came received a toy, food & Pistons gear for them and their parents. The kids were given a chance see Santa and ask him for all their Christmas wishes. They asked for everything from toys and games to being able to have their parents back. G.E.A.R. is excited for future partnerships to further help the community and residents. Thank you to the Detroit Pistons for your continued support!

COOl PEOPLE MATTER

The Detroit Pistons donation went a long way for this midnight league from 8p.m.-12a.m. Jay Matthews, who heads the program, called and explained they had 8 jerseys and 1 ball for 138 participants. This program provides a healthy and competitive environment for young adults in Battle Creek and literally saving lives. Recently, 3 kids were killed in Battle Creek because they happened to be walking the streets. Athletics is more than just an extracurricular activity, it impacts and molds our youth and can even save lives.
