G.E.A.R. would like to thank Blake Griffin for sponsoring Detroit Pershing High School. Blake’s donation provided new cross country, basketball, and track and field uniforms, as well as other much needed equipment.

It is thanks to G.E.A.R. partners like Blake that students in financially struggling schools are able to participate in athletics and have useable equipment and uniforms.

Hollywood Hills High School is just one of many schools we donate sporting supplies to. This is a great example of why we do what we do here at G.E.A.R.

Pittsburgh Pirates manager, Clint Hurddle talks about the impacts and lessons learned for youth participating in sports.

Stanford University coach, David Shaw discusses the importance of learning through sports.

G.E.A.R. is proud to partner with Detroit Pistons Star Blake Griffin to sponsor Detroit Osborn. Blake and the pistons provided nearly $30,000 in donations. The funds were used to purchase new basketballs, softball, baseball, compression tops and shorts, practice uniforms, and much more.

Detroit Osborn is forced to operate on an $8,300 budget for the entire year to fund all their sports. The contribution allows the student to have new uniforms in three sports for the first time in 5 years.

Hollywood Hills is a school located in Hollywood Hills, FL. They are forced to shut down sports and are in danger of shutting down their entire athletic department due to lack of funds. The cost of referees alone is greater than their entire department’s budget. Before the beginning of the school year, the department is already in debt almost $2,000 from referee fees alone. The school’s equipment is unsafe and their balls are tattered, but “they still bounce”.
G.E.A.R. is proud to partner with Hollywood Hills to supply them with new shoulder pads, basketballs, volleyballs, practice jerseys, compression pants and other necessities.

G.E.A.R. is proud to partner with New England Patriots, Alan Branch, to sponsor Detroit Cristo Rey High School. Cristo Rey is a private school with very limited funding. Alan sponsored them by buying new volleyball, cross country and track uniforms. They had not been able to afford new uniforms for the past 7 years, leaving their jerseys tattered and falling apart.

Thank you to former NFL All Star Lamarr Woodley and the Special Olympics for teaming up to host an amazing football camp. The camp coaches consisted of several former NFL and University of Michigan football players who put almost 645 athletes through college level drills. It was an amazing event, G.E.A.R. is always looking for opportunities to provide athletics to any athlete.

It was a Merry Christmas for the Hamtramck Housing Commission. Eighty-five percent of residents don’t have a vehicle, so Santa made sure to take a trip on his sleigh to see them. All the kids who came received a toy, food & Pistons gear for them and their parents. The kids were given a chance see Santa and ask him for all their Christmas wishes. They asked for everything from toys and games to being able to have their parents back. G.E.A.R. is excited for future partnerships to further help the community and residents. Thank you to the Detroit Pistons for your continued support!

  • Lives in a neighborhood with a high crime rate

The Detroit Pistons donation went a long way for this midnight league from 8p.m.-12a.m. Jay Matthews, who heads the program, called and explained they had 8 jerseys and 1 ball for 138 participants. This program provides a healthy and competitive environment for young adults in Battle Creek and literally saving lives. Recently, 3 kids were killed in Battle Creek because they happened to be walking the streets. Athletics is more than just an extracurricular activity, it impacts and molds our youth and can even save lives.

Proud to partner with the Special Olympics for a great rivalry game to kick off rivalry weekend. Former players from both The University of Michigan and Michigan State University partnered with Special Olympic athletes from each school to help promote a fun competitive environment.
